Scranton Preparatory School is a Catholic and Jesuit college preparatory day school for boys and girls within the Diocese of Scranton. The current enrollment is 835 students. Prep is fully accredited by the Pennsylvania State Department of Public Instruction and by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.〔 It is a member of the (Jesuit Secondary Education Association ), the National Association of Independent Schools, and the (National Catholic Educational Association ). Tuition (fees included) is currently $12,200 per year. A full program of athletics and extracurricular activities is offered to all students. Admission is by examination and interview by the Admissions Committee. ==Academics== Scranton Preparatory School offers only academic courses. All courses are college prep in nature. Four years of English, Mathematics, and Religious Education are required for graduation. Three years of Science are required for graduation. Freshmen are placed in an Introductory Chemistry and Physics course while Sophomores are placed into a Biology course. Students may then choose to take Chemistry courses, Physics courses, or both. Advanced Placement Courses are offered in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Two years of classical Latin and two years of a modern foreign language are also required. Students may choose either Spanish, German, or French to study as their modern foreign language. Motivated students may also take a first level course of an additional language their senior year. Upper level courses are offered in all modern foreign languages as well as in Classical Latin. Students may choose to take A.P. Latin during their Junior year. Classical Greek is offered as an elective for students of Junior standing. Classical Greek II is offered and recommended for students of Senior level who chose to take classical Greek I their Junior year. Two years of Social Studies are required of Freshmen and Sophomores, but upper level students may choose to take a number of honors and Advanced Placement courses in the subject. Courses in Computer Science, Art, Music, and Public Speaking are all required for different periods of time during a student's career at Scranton Prep.
